As teachers, we develop curriculum based on the needs, interests and areas of growth for the children in DK. We also base the curriculum on what's happening in the children's world: what's relevant to them at the moment, their cultures, holidays, and the seasons.

If you would like to know more about DK, we would love to talk with you and answer any questions you may have. If you would like to visit, call the school and we will find a convenient time for you to have a tour.

Each Friday The DK Parent Newsletter is written for the DK parents. Below is a Newsletter for a week in November. It will give you an idea of what we do in DK.

The children:
  • Glued Wood Sculptures (Goals: to create in 3 dimensions, to consider balance, strength, height in a structure.)
  • Thought about, told us about and drew their November Stories. (Goals: thinking about a story from beginning to ending, thinking about pretend versus real.)
  • Made a Birthday Book for a classmate. (Goals: drawing, thinking about a peer, dictating words, and writing.)
  • Explored the grounds looking for signs of Fall in the air, in the trees, on the ground during our Fall Nature Walk. The children returned to DK to complete Observational Drawings of items of interest to them. (Goals: observing nature and the world around us, taking an item in nature with careful observation draw what he/she sees.)
  • Answered the Graph Question, "How many letters are in your name?" Then by voting the children created a graph. (Goals: exposure to a graph, familiarity with his/her name, looking at upper case letters and upper/lower case letters.)
