The Orinda Preschool provides an environment rich in opportunity for learning through play, designed to meet the individual needs of the child. Our qualified staff provides the curriculum necessary to meet these goals and, along with the cooperation of the parents, supports your child to develop emotionally, socially, physically and intellectually.

Our goals are as follows:

l. Social/Emotional - We help each child become aware of his/her feelings and encourage their expression in constructive ways. Problem solving and conflict resolution are emphasized. Your child will be encouraged to participate in the joy of playing with others, thus becoming more independent, exhibiting more self-control and developing a healthy self-esteem. Your child will also be given the opportunity and encouragement to learn to enjoy solitary play, thus promoting self-awareness.

2. Physical - We provide a safe and healthy environment and through example and education, each child will understand the importance of health and safety. Rules for safety will be clearly stated and will be implemented with our disciplinary policy. Children are encouraged to develop a healthy and sound body through indoor and outdoor activities which enhance large and small motor skills. Each child will become aware of using all of the senses, thus experiencing the environment in a natural way for this age child.

3. Intellectual - Your child will grow intellectually through exploration, observation, experimentation and discovery. Attention is given to sharpening the child's abilities to be attentive, considerate, to follow directions, to communicate, and to learn self-responsibility while keeping a sense of wonder.

All of these goals and objectives are implemented by the use of play as our tool for learning and growing. Each area of specific curriculum will reflect this basic philosophy.
